YWCA raises $95,874 for our community
Vancouver, Wash. – YWCA Clark County raised $95,874 at the “Care to Play?” YWCA Summer Social on June 25, 2009 at Pearson Air Museum. This year’s featured program is the Y’s Care Children’s Program, which provides a well-rounded early education environment to over 100 homeless children and their families each year.
This number includes sponsorships, ticket sales, donations, raffle purchases, and more. An anonymous donor generously donated a $25,000 match to the cash appeal. Special thanks also to Mark Matthias, emcee, and the Ray Hickey Foundation for their support and generosity.
“Thanks to our supporters, the event’s proceeds will go to our seven life-saving programs,” said Jennifer Werdel, YWCA’s Director of Development and Communications. “We are grateful to them and excited that the first year of this event went so well.”
More than 200 attendees enjoyed ten raffle packages, appetizers and desserts from local restaurants and caterers, music, a magician and a balloon artist, and complimentary photos next to a vintage plane. Except for a brief program presentation, attendees could wander the space of the Pearson Air Museum and try all of the different activities. It was a grown-up version of a playful summer party.
