val joshua racial justice award

The first award was given in 1989 to Val Joshua in recognition of her lifelong commitment to and work for the elimination of racism.

An individual, organization or business can be nominated and the selection criteria are as follows:

  • The nominee's life and work demonstrate leadership in working to eliminate racism
  • The nominee exhibits significant involvement in the struggle for peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all people.
  • The nominee demonstrates commitment to self-determined social change for all people.

The Val Joshua Racial Justice Award will be presented at the YWCA's Annual Celebration on January 23, 2008.
