workshops and moreVoices of Women in Our Community: A Social Change Discussion SeriesWe invite you to attend our networking and discussion on the issues that affect women.
Conversations on Racism and Other Forms of OppressionThis new brown-bag lunchtime discussion series is a chance for community members to talk about issues of oppression in a safe, respectful environment. No pre-registration required, and you can come for all or part of each session. The "Conversations" are held on the first and third Monday of each month in the Large Group Room at the YWCA Clark County Helene Schoen Center. If we are closed on a regularly scheduled day for the "Conversation," it will be held the next day we are open. 2009 dates include: Eliminating Racism WorkshopThe YWCA is continuing work on the Eliminating Racism Workshop, which was created with the help of a grant from Hewlett-Packard Vancouver. The workshop, subtitled Tools for Increasing Awareness and Personal Action, will be offered several times in 2009. The next workshop will be held on: Friday, September 25, 2009, time and location tbd The four-hour workshop analyzes the various aspects of racism. Presentations and discussions focus on the definitions and structure of racism, institutional racism, and the idea of white privilege. At the end, each participant is encouraged to make his or her own personal commitment to take action against racism. Pre-registration is required. The workshop is free for YWCA staff and volunteers. All workshops are held in the Community Room at the YWCA Clark County Helene Schoen Center.
