Eliminating Racism Workshop

The YWCA is continuing work on the Eliminating Racism Workshop, which was created with the help of a grant from Hewlett-Packard Vancouver. The workshop, subtitled Tools for Increasing Awareness and Personal Action, will be offered several times in 2009. The next workshop will be held on:

Friday, September 25, 2009, time and location tbd

The four-hour workshop analyzes the various aspects of racism. Presentations and discussions focus on the definitions and structure of racism, institutional racism, and the idea of white privilege. At the end, each participant is encouraged to make his or her own personal commitment to take action against racism.

Pre-registration is required. For more information or to register, please contact Judy Kinsey at 360-906-9103 or e-mail jkinsey@ywcaclarkcounty.org. The workshop is $50 a person, though need-based scholarships are available. The workshop is free for YWCA staff and volunteers. All workshops are held in the Community Room at the YWCA Clark County Helene Schoen Center.

Businesses, agencies and organizations: We hope to begin offering more workshops in the future, including on-site workshops for local groups. Please contact Jay Atwood, Social Change Program Manager, at 360-906-9129 or jatwood@ywcaclarkcounty.org for more information.
