Worth -
women offenders' rehabilitation through TRAINING AND help
About
WORTH
Every week six to eight female volunteers visit the women inmates in
Clark County.
Worth has been operating for over 25 years, providing support and supplies
for the women inmates. Each week, they bring a stack of stationery and
greeting cards for the women to write letters to loved ones, their families
or even an attorney. The YWCA volunteers bring brochures on everything
from hepatitis to job training, alcoholism to pregnancy. Sometimes they
bring clothes, including underwear, socks and nightgowns.
More important than any of these things, though, is the fact that the
WORTH women bring a diversion from an over crowded jail, boredom and a
release from stress. These women treat the inmates with respect. The inmates
can talk with the WORTH volunteers in a non-judgmental atmosphere. For
more information about the WORTH program, please call the Community Office
at 696-0167 and ask to speak to a WORTH representative.
What you can do to help
Make donations of stationery, greeting cards (blank or birthday, stamps,
clean women's underwear, bras, socks, flannel nightgowns, nail polish
and remover. The program would also like sewing machines for making nightgowns,
nightgown project materials and accessories (stretch cotton, stretch flannel).
How to volunteer
Contact Al Flory at 360-696-0167. Background checks are required, as
is a nonjudgmental attitude.
