Worth -
women offenders' rehabilitation through TRAINING AND help
About
WORTH
Every week six to eight female volunteers visit the women inmates in
Clark County.
Worth has been operating for over 25 years, providing support and supplies
for the women inmates. The YWCA volunteers bring brochures on everything
from hepatitis to job training, alcoholism to pregnancy. Sometimes they
bring clothes, including underwear, socks and nightgowns. They also visit the Clark County WORK Center, where they teach the inmates how to make quilts.
More important than any of these things, though, is the fact that the
WORTH women bring a diversion from an overcrowded jail and a
release from stress and boredom. These women treat the inmates with respect. The inmates
can talk with the WORTH volunteers in a non-judgmental atmosphere. For
more information about the WORTH program, please call the Community Office
at 360-696-0167 and ask to speak to a WORTH representative.
What you can do to help
Make donations of
clean women's underwear, bras, socks, flannel nightgowns. The program would also like sewing machines for making quilts as well as fabric and thread.
How to volunteer
Contact Al Flory at 360-696-0167. Background checks are required, as
is a nonjudgmental attitude.
