The organization was recently denied grants it had previously received, often without clear explanation, while other funding opportunities disappeared. As federal grants become less reliable, Lasseigne said local nonprofits must rethink their funding sources.

Without the funding, the nonprofit may have to eliminate or reduce essential programs, including 24/7 hospital response, support groups and the region’s only emergency domestic violence shelter.
